The Tao of Online CPE Courses

Many people aspire to a career in the law – and so they wind up in a law firm, even if not as attorneys. That’s when the real world hits ’em, presenting a very different picture of the occupation than what they’d come to expect from their studies. In the real world, lawyers spend less time arguing over morality than determining legality. However, the field is ever-changing and so practicing attorneys use online CPE courses to remain relevant. The implication is that one will be forever hitting the books!

In fact, such continuing education (the “CPE” in “online CPE courses” refers to “continuing professional education”) is necessary for the vast majority of professions that require state licensing. In addition to lawyers, doctors, accountants, even those who work with them may be subject to some kind of on-going education, whether by the state or by professional associations that govern the field.

Such education, as a term like “online CPE courses” would suggest, is mostly pursued through the worldwide web and is mostly self-paced. Depending on the exact circumstances, oftentimes there are no set rules beyond some amount that must be taken, measured in terms of credits (yes, just like in school). Generally one would have two to three years or so to earn around three credits towards maintaining one’s professional license to practice. A nurse may choose to focus on patient-side topics instead of strictly scientific ones having to do with biochemical facts, for example.

For those that aspire to the professions, continuing education will be just another fact of life, thanks to the ever increasing level of complexity that new developments bring to bear on the field. Fortunately, everything’s easily accessible at one’s own convenience on the worldwide web!
